DarsaPoint Privacy Policy

DarsaPoint is a community service (khidmah) that helps people find durus (Islamic lessons) at mosques near them, and organizes Islamic teaching in schools. We collect as little data as possible.

Your location

The app uses your location to show nearby mosques and durus, only while you use it. Before it is sent, the location is rounded to about 100 metres. We do not store your location. Like any server, technical server logs may briefly contain those requests for security.

Using the app without an account

Finding mosques, durus, sheikhs and books needs no account, name or phone number.

Reports of wrong information

If you report a mistake, we keep your message and, if you choose, a phone number or email so we can reply. We do not keep your IP address; we keep a one-way hash of it to prevent abuse.

Suggesting a mosque

When signed in, you can suggest a mosque that is missing. We keep its name, the position you pinned, and photos if you add them. Before a photo is stored we remove the data hidden inside it, such as where it was taken and the phone model.

You can also give the name and phone number of someone we may call about the mosque (for example the imam), only if that person agreed. This is private: only DarsaPoint moderators and that mosque's administrators see it, and it is never shown publicly. The person can ask for it to be deleted through the contact below.

Mosque and organization administrators

People who manage mosques or organizations have accounts with a name, email and phone number. Phone numbers of sheikhs and other people are private and never shown publicly. A mosque's phone number is shown only if the mosque chooses to.

Children

Student records (for example in schools) are never public and are visible only to the teachers and coordinators responsible.

We do not sell data

We do not sell or share your data for advertising. Maps use OpenStreetMap; when you tap "Directions", your phone's maps app (e.g. Google Maps) opens and its own policy applies.
